Select Food Culture

Editorial policy

Select Food Culture aims to make food writing clear, considered and fair to the people and traditions it describes. We want readers to be able to tell what a story says, how it is framed and how to flag a detail that needs attention.

Accuracy and context

We check factual claims against suitable sources before publication and give context where a claim could otherwise mislead. Food history and cultural practices can be complex, so we avoid turning disputed or changing accounts into neat certainties. We do not claim research or first-hand testing that we have not done.

Independence and partnerships

Editorial decisions are made for the publication's readers. Payment or a partnership does not buy a favourable editorial judgment. Sponsored or partner material is clearly labelled as such, and any relevant connection is made visible so readers can distinguish it from independent editorial coverage.

Corrections

If you spot an error, send the article title and the detail in question through the Contact page. We review correction requests, update material when a change is warranted and make significant corrections clear to readers. Not every disagreement calls for a correction, but each report deserves consideration.

Illustrations

Some illustrations may be generated with AI. Where an image could be mistaken for a documentary photograph or a real scene, we identify its illustrative nature. Images are not evidence for a factual claim.

Our point of view

Food makes culture tangible

A pantry, a cooking method or a shared meal can open up a bigger story. We look for those connections without treating any one way of eating as the only right one.
